Expanded state experiences, whether via ingestion of a psychedelic substance, breathwork, or meditation, can be powerful forces for personal growth and development. Integration therapy is specifically focused support in grounding these types of experiences.
The use of psychedelic substances to treat mental disorders has recently experienced a re-emergence in the United States. Numerous clinical trials are showing that under certain circumstances and containers, the careful and intentional use of these substances (sometimes also termed "entheogens" or "empathogens") can have profoundly positive impacts on a person's well-being. Psychedelic psychotherapy today places particular emphasis on integration work, or how insight and understanding from an experience is woven into a person's life.
Valeria is a graduate from the first year of CIIS's Center for Psychedelic Therapies and Research Certificate, which trains therapists both for positions in research and to support integration work. It is important to note that integration work does not include the administration of any illegal or controlled substance, nor does it take responsibility for, guiding, or supervising any client during the experience itself, but rather supports a client in maximizing their learning and growth.
